Today, the paper, “CERIF for Datasets (C4D): Linking and contextualising publications and datasets, and much more…” was presented by Nikos Houssos (@nhoussos) at a workshop on Linking and Contextualising Publications and Datasets at the 17th International Conference on Theory and Practice of Digital Libraries: TPDL2013, Valletta, Malta
Conference details at http://www.tpdl2013.info
The paper is due to be published by Springer in an upcoming edition of “Communications in Computer and Information Science” (CCIS)

A proposal for a workshop on “Linking and Contextualizing Publications and Datasets” has been accepted at the TPDL 2013 conference (Malta, September 2013 – http://www.tpdl2013.info/) – the proposal has been submitted by Paolo Manghi (CNR), Lukasz Bolikowski (ICM), Jochen Schirrwagen and Nikos Houssos (euroCRIS Board). The workshop provisional web page is at http://lcpd2013.research-infrastructures.eu)
This is the primary conference for digital libraries in Europe with a topic very relevant to C4D and related projects investigating research data management.
Recently the research computing team at St Andrews asked academic staff how much research data they had, where they kept it and how much they expected to produce going forward. For the results of the survey so far see the blog at http://research-computing.wp.st-andrews.ac.uk/2013/03/18/how-much-research-data-do-we-have-and-where-do-we-store-it/
The Pure UK User Group recently established a research data working group. This group met for the first time in Dundee (physically or virtually) on 18th January.
Representatives from many of the 21 Universities using Pure met and agreed to work together with Atira to add Research Data catalogue functionality to Pure.
One of the first tasks will be agree the metadata to be captured and work from C4D will inform this discussion. Other formats we will look at are Datacite, CKAN and the work being carried out with ePrints at Sussex and Glasgow.
This will be discussed at the next Pure UK User Group at the end of January.
See post at Cerif In Action blog
The recent User Pure UK User Group meeting hosted by Royal Holloway University London, Feb 1st and 2nd 2012, discussed linking research data to other entities in Pure and were very interested in the Cerif for Datasets project and would like to be kept informed of progress.
At the MRD launch meeting in Nottingham and obvious that many of the projects are looking for a generic layer of metadata to link data sets to other research info and to facilitate discovery and reuse.
Suggest C4D surveys the other projects to get feedback on the generic metadata they are proposing/using .. Or maybe need a more interactive way of collating this?
Any suggestions welcome
